• Scatterplot Matrix Navigation for Multidimensional Visual Exploration - A method for visual exploration of large and multidimensional datasets by navigation in data dimension space using 2D scatterplots and a matrix of scatterplots.
• 3D Occlusion Management - Techniques for intelligent management of 3D views to minimize the impact of occlusion on visualization in 3D environments.
  • Image-Space Dynamic Transparency - Image-space algorithm and implementation for real-time virtual X-Ray vision, as well as a user study showing its benefit for discovery and access in 3D environments.
  • Interactive 3D Space Distortion (BalloonProbe) - Using an interactive 3D force field for object displacement to facilitate target separation and distractor removal.
  • View-Projection Animation (2004-2007) - Interaction technique for smooth and interactive animation of the 3D view projection matrix to facilitate active occlusion management.
  • 3D Navigation Guidance - Computer-supported interactive navigation of 3D environments using a precomputed grand tour to facilitate quick familiarization of the environment.
• Melange: Space Folding for Multi-Focus Interaction - A 2D interaction technique for simultaneously showing multiple focus regions by folding intervening space into 3D.
• HCI@Play - Applying principles of human-computer interaction to improve human performance of mundane tasks in computer games.
  • Semantic 3D Pointing - Semantic 3D pointing for improving target acquisition and object picking in 3D environments.
• Zoomable Adjacency Matrix Explorer - A large-scale visualization system based on multiscale matrix representations of aggregated graph data.
• DataMeadow: A Visual Canvas for Analysis of Large-Scale Multivariate Data - Structured starplot parallel coordinate displays using a data flow model and dynamic query axis filtering for visual analytics.
• Visualization of Scientific Citation Networks (CiteWiz) - Visualization of citation networks in scientific communities using causality visualization techniques, interactive timelines, and concept maps.

• 3DVN: A Mixed Reality for Mobile Navigation Assistance (2002-2003) - A Mixed Reality system built on top of a Xybernaut wearable computer for aiding navigation in a real-world building.
• Causality Visualization (2001-2003) - Information visualization techniques for representing time-series data of causally related events using color, texture, and animation (the Growing Squares and Growing Polygons techniques).
• Trust Visualization for Internet Security Situational Awareness (2004-2007) - Applying 3D information visualization to provide concrete visual metaphors of security for novice- and intermediate-level computer users.
