How to get to LRI

LRI is located in the south suburbs of Paris, near the Orsay-Ville train station, on the B line of the RER. The B line crosses Paris North to South, from Charles de Gaulle airport, to Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse in the South. Or say is a few stops before Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. The B line also makes a stop at Gare du Nord (trains from the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands...) and at Antony, where the Orlyval connects the RER network to the Orly airport.

From Charles de Gaulle airport

The B line of the RER makes two stops at the Charles de Gaulle airport. Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 serves terminals 1 and T9;Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 serves terminal 2.

From terminal 1: Take the GREEN shuttle in the direction of RER/Roissypole. The shuttle leaves from the lower level of the terminal.

From terminal 2: Follow the signs"Gare TGV, train vers Paris/Trains to Paris"

From terminal T9: The RER station is a 3-minute walk, on the right when exiting the terminal.

A one-way ticket to Paris costs about 50FF and the trip takes about 35 minutes.

A one-way ticket to Orsay costs about 80 FF and the trip takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

All the trains do stop at all the stops within the city, but when coming to Orsay, please note that the trains do not all make the same stops. Check the large overhead boards on the platforms to check that your train stops at Orsay (or Gif, etc.) A white dot next to the station indicates that the stop will be made.

Trains in the direction of Saint-Remy-les-Chevreuse go by about every 20 minutes.

From Gare du Nord

Trains arriving from the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands arrive at Gare du Nord. Follow signs leading to the RER's B line. A one-way ticket to Orsay costs about 20FF

From Paris to Orsay

To come to Orsay from Paris, make your way to the B line of the RER (e.g., Luxembourg, Port-Royal, Cite Universitaire...) Take a train in the direction of Orsay (aka Orsay-Ville) or Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. Note that not all trains go to Orsay, so do check the overhead boards to make sure the train stops at the station you plan to get off at.

From Gif to Orsay

The Gif-sur-Yvette train station is 3 stops after Orsay on the B line. It is in zone number 5 of the Paris transit system. A one-way ticket from Gif to Orsay costs 8F.

From the Orsay-Ville station to LRI

From the Orsay-Ville train station, take the pedestrian underpath to the left, at the end of the train platform. Follow the signs indicationg "FAC" ("faculty" or university campus). Take rue Elisa-Desjobert straight ahead. You will pass a parking lot on your right, a boarded up gas station on your left, and cross over small bridge which leads straight to the university's main entrance gate. Stay on the sidewalk on the right side of the street, and go up the steps of the path that takes you past two buildings on your right. The path turns into a paved stairway, which separates into two main branches. Keep on the right. The stairway open out onto a parking lot right in front of building number 490. The Algorithms and Complexity group is on the third floor (2 flights up from the ground floor.) There is a telephone in the hall to the left of the stairs where you can call your host by dialing the last 5 digits of their number.
