Short Biography

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, I have been on the road for most of my life.

In February 1994, I graduated in Computer Science from the Universidad Simon Bolivar, Caracas Venezuela. After that, I started a Master Degree in Computer Science, specialization in Artificial Intelligence, and taught several courses in the CS Departement. I finished my Master's degree in February 1998, after working in the AI Lab for my thesis. I worked in industry as a Software Project Manager at Eurobanco (Caracas) and I was one of the founders and Project Manager at Kynesoft Sistemas.

I moved to Montreal in 2001, and a new interest grew in me for the research world: I started a PhD at the Ecole de Technologie Superieure and graduated in December 2006; in April 2007, I started working with Marc Schoenauer as part of his TAO team in Saclay (south of Paris), France. I am working on Automatic Parameter Tuning for Evolutionary Algorithms; I am also applying evolutionary computation ideas to solving software engineering problems (specifically, testing), as part of the EvoTest European Project (of which I am the Quality Manager). As part of my research, I am also one of the main developers of GUIDE, a library with a Graphical User Interface that allows non specialists of Evolutionary Computation (EC) to quickly develop their own applications. It is an Open Source project, published here.

I am currently based in Montreal.
