Major in Human Computer Interaction and Design

The EIT ICT Labs Master School is an exclusive joint initiative by leading universities and business schools in Europe with additional mentoring and partnering from excellent European research organisations and leading business partners.

The EIT ICT Labs Master School offers two-year programmes (120 ECTS) leading to a dual/double Master's degree including a mandatory and fully standardized Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) minor (30 ECTS). Graduates will receive two degrees, one from each institution where they have been studying and a certificate from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Students will be offered an internship with a partner from industry or with a research centre of the EIT ICT Labs to work on a thesis project. Students will also participate in a common EIT ICT Labs Master School summer program.

The major in Human Computer Interaction and Design focuses on the study, design, and evaluation of novel user interfaces and interactive systems taking into account human aspects at the cognitive and sensory-motor levels, as well as technological and business aspects.

The first year is offered by KTH, Aalto and U. Paris-Sud, and includes courses on human-computer interaction, user-centered design, web programming, and usability evaluation.

The second year is a specialisation year available at the following institutes:

KTH Stockholm - Mobile and ubiquitous interaction - design, development and implementation of mobile and physical interaction;

Aalto Helsinki - User modelling - machine learning techniques for modelling users and their interactions with computers.

U. Paris-Sud - Situated interaction - mixed reality, tangible interfaces and immersive virtual environments;

TU Berlin - Multimodal interaction - speech recognition, emotion and situation recognition, image analysis, vision-based interaction;

Univ. of Twente - Intelligent systems -  agent-based systems that perform automated reasoning;

UCL – London - Cognitive interaction - affective computing, bringing a human-centred and cognitive perspective to HCI practice.
