This document gives a concise list of the steps that you need to follow to install a NOKIA digital pen and use oMusink through PaperToolkit (http://code.google.com/p/papertoolkit/). Much of this documentation has been based on PaperToolkit's online documentation at Stanford University: http://hci.stanford.edu/research/paper/documentation/ All the installations can be performed in a single Windows XP partition. However, if you use a virtual machine software, you can install the pen software and PaperToolkit on Windows' partition, and oMusink (also OpenMusic) on the Mac OS partition. We have tested this configuration with VMware Fusion installed on Mac OS X Leopard. (A) Basic Pen Setup (on Windows XP partition) --------------------------------------------- (1) Get an Anoto Pen. We have tested Nokia SU-1B, but other models may also work (2) Make sure you have .NET 2.0 installed on your computer (3) Install the Nokia SU-1B software and update the pen with the newest firmware (4) Install Anoto SDK (version 3.2) (B) Setting up PaperToolkit (on Windows XP partition) ----------------------------------------------------- (1) Make sure that Java 1.6 (or later) has been installed (2) Download papertoolkit.zip and unzip it under the folder of your preference (3) Execute Registration.exe under the paperToolkit\penSynch\bin directory (4) Pen data are originally stored under the "paperToolkit\penSynch\data\XML" folder. In the "paperToolkit\penSynch\data-config.txt" file, you can add the path of an additional folder, where you want pen data to be copied. If you run Fusion VMware you can specify the path of a shared folder (e.g. "\\.host\Shared Folders\PenData"). In this way pen data will be readable by the Mac OS X partition. Shared folders can be specified through WMware's user interface (Virtual Machine->Shared Folders->Add Shared Folder...). [Important: If you have a printing license and use your own paper with the tool, the procedure is a bit more complicated (see http://hci.stanford.edu/paper/documentation/tutorials/AnotoSDK/AnotoSDK.html) After you produce the PAD file (e.g., 21.106.18.X.pad) that describes your licensed pattern, you should edit the file and include the value "fieldtools::R3" so that you can use it with the toolkit. (you hould have the line within the section of the PAD file) Place the PAD file under paperToolkit\penSynch\PADs\ before you run the Registration application (Step 3). The file will be automatically copied under Anoto's PADs directory (normally under C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Anoto\PADs). You could also place directly the PAD file under this folder.] (C) Installing oMusink (either Windows or Mac OS partition) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Make sure that Java 1.6 (or later) has been installed (2) Download and decompress the distribution file under the folder of your preference (3) Specify the path that PaperToolkit uses to store pen data (...paperToolkit/penSynch/data/XML) in the data-config.txt file. If you use WMware, you must specify the path of the shared folder to which pen data are copied. oMusink copies the pen data form the specified folder to the pendata folder under oMusink's installation. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- For more information and questions, contact fanis at lri dot fr Theophanis Tsandilas INRIA, In|Situ, Feb 2009 ----------------------------------------------------------------
