Textlets: Supporting Constraints and Consistency in Text Documents
Han L. Han, Miguel A. Renom, Wendy E. Mackay, Michel Beaudouin-Lafon
Based on the interveiws with legal professionals technical document editing practices, we introduce Textlets as new design concept that reifying text selection (might be selection in general?) into easy-to-manipulate objects that users can directly interact with.
We introduce four examples (more examples in the paper) based on this concept to show its generative power.
people, design, hci
I have been collecting materials and resources that are related to design.
The idea is to create a digital space that I can use to inspire my design, communicate design with colleagues and also share design with others.
The Design Trilogy
The Design Trilogy is a series of three documentary films about design: typeface design, industrial design and urban design (and architecture).
It is just fansinating to realize that everything around us has been designed.
Creativity In Management
talks about how to be creative with open-mode.
He also introduces five essential elements to creativity: space, time, time, humor and confidence.
I have been practicing these principles for in my design activity.
I simply love this inspirational presentation with series embeded jokes to illustrate his point.
How Buildings Learn
I watched the 6-part TV series by the BBC.
It really opens my eyes about different types of buildings and the their relationships with people.
Journal of A Plastic Bag
A short film by Ramin Bahrani
depicts a journal of a plastic bag.
What is particularly fanscinating about this film is what I call "humanizing object".
By humanize an object, it opens a wonderful story behind.
Interestingly, this idea has also been explored for a file in the computer with File Biography
Design & Thinking
A documentary consists a series of interviews with world-leading designers working in industrial.
It gives a vague but exciting feelings about design when I first watched it.
Life in a Day
Same time, different spaces, different people, different life.
It reminds me that why I get into design: people.
What is interaction design
illustrates what is interaction design.
The final sketch can been seen as one interaction point/loop or an overview of interaction.
I love the idea of illustrating the concept with voice over and simple sketch.
It reminds me that mathematicians use to illustrate their ideas with chalk and blackboard while speak aloud their thoughts.
